Grow To, Grow From (2023) is a project made in Kabelvåg, Lofoten, originally presented as a handmade book, which combines photography and scribbles by the students in the village.
When first arriving in Kabelvåg, I was struck by the mountains surrounding the town. They looked like the back of a dragon, curling around us. Or like teeth, and that we were standing in the mouth of a giant. It was forceful; scary and beautiful.
The small town houses a college that graduates people within art and film. But none of the students stay.
The project aims to explore how we relate to places, and how we leave them. If we ever really do.
